The Meayll: 8U data rack is my production network storage rack located in the server room at Baarool Lab. All the workstations in the computer, adjecent to the server room, can SSH into the each of the network attached storage nodes.

Currently the data rack houses a mix of NETGEAR network equipment and Synology NAS nodes. In time all the equipment in the rack will be replaced by two nodes in the Twoaie: server rack: the Jeebinys: network attached storage (NAS), and the Moggyl storage area network (SAN).

Both of these projects are currently pending development, but should be in production before the nodes in the data rack reach their end-of-life.

NOTE: I have written down the RU (Rack Unit) position of a node or fixed asset in the rack – noting the height in rack units – starting from the bottom of the rack and counting upwards.

The rack

The 8U data rack is built around a Tecmojo 2-postdesktop server rack.

NOTE: This switch is connected via a CAT6 ethernet cable to a MikroTik CRS418-8P-8G-2S+RM in the Twoaie: server rack, which is in turn connected to the Bradda: network rack in the computer lab via a network bridge.
