The Sniaul: 20U server rack is an off-site production rack that I am currently building round a Tecmojo 20U 4-Post Open Frame Rack. It only has 18U of space rack due to the design and structure of the rack which has a 1U support brace at the top of the rack, and another 1U support brace at the bottom of the rack. The rear of the rack has 16.5U of rack space owing to a larger support braces at the top and bottom of the rack.
This server rack will house my production virtualisation cluser, and off-site backup server, along with networking equipment. This project is currently in the procurement phase, where I am identifying needs, and assessing the lifecycle of the IT assets to ensure alignment with my goals at Baarool Lab, before I begin to select the hardware and software.
Fibre broadband
My core focus at this time is to get Fibre Broadband installed at the facility – which is essentially a cubbyhole in a cottage in the next village – with a business package from a local telecommunications company. I have the choice of speeds: 200, 500, or 1000 Mbps. The package comes with one fixed IP address, but I am looking to get multiple IP addresses.
